Resolutions For Dogs

Happy New Year! Can you believe it’s already 2022? We know that resolutions are a big topic today. It’s always good to strive to grow, change, and improve yourself. That applies to dogs, too! Read on as a Chesapeake, VA vet lists a few things on Fido’s to-do list for 2022.

Sniff All The Grass

Our canine pals have very sensitive noses. Fido can smell things in incredibly minute proportions. Keep this in mind as you are walking your pooch. You may get bored standing there while your furry friend inspects a patch of grass, but this is actually quite informative for him.

Learn Something New

Did you know that many dogs enjoy learning new things? Learning a trick or command can help boost Fido’s confidence, just as figuring out something new can be great for kids. If your pup hasn’t mastered doggy obedience basics, such as Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down, work on these. Once he has all of these down, show him some cute tricks.

Go On Adventures

Dogs love exploring new places. Help your canine companion make this goal by taking him to some new spots this year.

Score More Treats

If Fido were able to write down his life goals, it’s probably safe to say that getting as much bacon as possible would be on the list, and probably pretty high up. You’ll want to meet your furry pal halfway on this one. Treats are fine, and they make great training aids, but you don’t want to overdo it.

Avoid Baths

Sorry, buddy: these are for your own good!

Be A Good Boy

Dogs are wonderfully loyal, and they will go to extraordinary lengths to please their humans. Fido absolutely beams with joy when he is getting praised or rewarded for something. Keep up that positive reinforcement, and offer your pet lots of praise and treats when he is behaving properly.

Spend Time With The Human

At the end of the day, Fido really just wants to spend time with you. Try to spend time with your furry buddy every day. Walks and playtime are great, but your pooch will also be happy just to doze at your feet.

All of us at Western Branch Veterinary Clinic want to wish you a wonderful New Year. We look forward to giving your pets great care in 2022 and for years to come.
