6 Simple Ways to Keep Your Cat Happy

Cats are very independent, as you may have noticed. Fluffy is actually a fierce predator. In fact, our feline pals don’t really need us: they just prefer being pampered to working for their dinner. However, while keeping your kitty’s bowl full and her litterbox clean will cover her most essential needs, it takes more than that to get that little motor going. Read on as a Chesapeake, VA vet lists some ways to keep your cat happy.

Attention

Kitties are actually very emotional, and are happiest when they feel loved. Pay attention to Fluffy! Talk to her, pet her, and play with her. Even giving your furball a quick forehead kiss or ear scratch as you pass her will help keep her content.

Comfy Beds

Fluffy certainly does take her beauty rest seriously. Cats can sleep as much as 20 hours a day! Offering your drowsy feline friend lots of beds is one of the best—and easiest ways—to pamper her. Store-bought beds are great, but you can also just fold up a soft blanket and put it on a chair. A pillow in a wicker basket will also work. Move things around regularly to keep things interesting for your furball.

Toys and Playtime

Kitties are hunters by nature, so they instinctively like to pounce on things. Offer Fluffy lots of toys, and play with her regularly. This will be fun for you both!

Veterinary Care

Although Fluffy would probably rather eat, sleep, or play than visit us, she will both look and feel better with proper healthcare. Ask your vet to recommend an appointment schedule.

Kitty Comforts

Small touches can make a big difference to our furry pals. If you’re leaving your cat alone, keep a radio or TV playing for her, so she can have some background noise. Setting out pet-safe plants will give Fluffy something to nibble on and hide behind, while a comfy window seat will keep her occupied with birdwatching. Pet furniture and scratching posts will also please your feline overlord, and keep her motor going.

Boxes

Last but not least, we have what may very well be the easiest way to make Fluffy’s day: the cardboard box. Kitties just can’t resist exploring boxes!
