Things To Do With Your Dog This Year

Happy New Year! As we turn the page on 2022, and start out a brand-new chapter for 2023, many of us are making plans for the next 12 months. Don’t forget to include your canine companion in your plans! A local Chesapeake, VA vet lists a few things to put on your to-do list for your pooch in this article.

Go New Places

Dogs love to explore new places. While some pups are more adventurous than others, nearly all of them will benefit from the stimulation and exercise walks and hikes provide. If Fido is healthy and polite enough for some adventures, take him somewhere new this year. There are now many apps that index spots for walking and hiking. These can be great for finding hidden spots in your local area!

Learn Something New

Continuing and/or completing education is a very popular resolution for humans. This is a great one for dogs, as well! Your canine pal should know key commands, such as Sit, Stay, and Come. He should also be housetrained and free of bad habits, such as jumping on people. If your pooch is still working on these basics, get those knocked out this year. Then, start working on more advanced commands. Or, just have fun teaching your furry friend cute tricks, like Shake, Roll Over, or Play Dead.

Play

Playing is fun and beneficial for both people and pets. For Fido, it’s a great way to burn off some energy, stay in shape, and just enjoy being a dog. Toys and playtime will help get that tail going! You may find that tossing a ball or Frisbee for your four-legged pal is an immediate mood booster for you as well.

Spend Time With Friends

Your furry bff really wants nothing more than to spend time with you. However, it is good for Fido to also interact with other pups, and to meet new human pals as well. Host a puppy playdate, or make a habit of getting together with friends or family members with dogs of their own.

Relax

There are definitely some wonderful benefits to living in the modern world, but it can get pretty hectic. Remember to take some time for just relaxing and unwinding with your canine buddy.
